Email Setup Guide - Email Admin Control Panel (mx2)

This guide explains how to setup your first mailbox. There is also a section at the end explaining about aliases and forwards.

Please note: This guide is for clients on the mx2.athnic.net mail server and does not currently apply to mx1, although the explanation of aliases and forwards may still be useful.

Please click here for additional information regarding how to check which mail server your domain is currently using and for finding links to the email admin area and webmail for your domain.

1. Login using the username and password provided for email admin in your welcome message.

Email Admin Login Screen

2. Click on "Domain List" or "Overview".

Click Domain List or Overview

3. Click on "edit" on the far right across from the domain you wish to allocate quota to.

4. Enter the amount of your total email quota you wish to allocate to this domain. Click on "Edit Domain" when done.

Edit Domain Screen

5. You will now be back at the Overview screen. Click on the domain name you wish to add a mailbox to.

Click the domain name

6. Click on "Add Mailbox".

Click Add Mailbox

7. In the Create a new mailbox screen enter the name for your mailbox (e.g. in this case trace@atticbatik.com). Then type in a password for the mailbox twice. Type in a descriptive name for the namebox and finally select the amount of quota you wish to allocate from the maximum you set on the domain earlier. The number shown will normally be the amount currently unallocated on the domain. Click on "Add Mailbox" when done.

Create Mailbox Screen

In addition to mailboxes, you can also create aliases and forwards.

An alias is another email address or your domain. You can then have email arriving on this alias delivered to one of your mailboxes.

A forward is just a special type of alias that sends email arriving on that alias straight back out again to a mailbox with another provider (e.g. Google, Yahoo! or your broadband ISP mailbox).

Below is an example for each. In either case you click on "Add Alias" from the domain overview screen to get started.

Alias: Type in the name for your alias (in the example below we're creating the email address jo@atticbatik.com). In the "To" box, type in the name of the mailbox you want messages from this email address delivered to. If the mailbox is on a different domain, type in the full address (in the example below it would deliver email to jo@atticbatik.com to the mailbox trace@atticbatik.com

Create new alias screen

Forward: This is exactly the same as a new alias except in the "To" box you would type in the full email address you wish email arriving at your alias to be forwarded on to.

Create new alias screen

In the Overview screen for a given domain you can edit the Alias on the mailbox (far right across from the mailbox) and on aliases/forwards (click the "edit" link). You can mix forwards and aliases for a given alias or mailbox. This means it is possible to deliver email to your mailbox(es) and forward it to one or more external addresses simultaneously.
